A
Right to Information in the context of India means two things:
-
A
Right to have access to information held by the government relating
to a legal right of any person. This information could be in
the form of records, files, registers, maps, data, drawings,
etc.
-
A
Right to be told something which could affect a person's rights.
This means that the government has a positive duty to give certain
types of information without waiting to be asked for it. This
would include information on issues concerning projects which
directly affect the people or the environment, information on
health, agriculture, weather conditions etc.
