The
Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) is held every
two years and is the key event on the Commonwealth calendar. Each
time a different theme is selected for the Meeting and the Heads
of Government issue statements on this theme, as well as setting
policy directions for the Commonwealth. As such, CHOGM is a major
target of CHRI's advocacy work. It provides an opportunity to
advocate to the Commonwealth to go further on its human rights
commitments.
Every
two years CHRI produces a report on an issue of human rights concern
in the Commonwealth. Every report follows a different, critical
theme related to human rights that both reflects and challenges
the global debates on human rights. The reports include recommendations
to the Commonwealth to further protect and promote human rights.
