Since 2015, CHRI analyses NCRB’s annual report - Prison Statistics India to come up with trends, major findings and a comparative commentary on certain indicators to present the status of prisons and prisoners in India.
This analysis is based on the latest Prison Statistics India 2018. The 10 indicators analysed are - prison population and occupancy, undertrial prisoners ratio, the period of confinement, women and prisons: inmates and staff, education, caste and religion profile of prisoners, prison staff, foreign national prisoners, prison inspections, expenditure on prisoners and deaths in prisons.
