This issue of Jail Mail provides a brief overview of the questions on prisons and prisoners raised by the Members of Parliament in the Winter Session of 2019 (which started on 18th November 2019 and ended on 13th December 2019) and the Budget Session of 2020 (The first part was from 31st January 2020 to 11th February 2020. The second part of the session was from 2nd March to 23rd March 2020). The summary for the Winter Session documents 62 questions relating to prison reforms, deaths in prisons, overcrowding, undertrials, legal aid, foreign national prisoners, preventive detentions in Jammu & Kashmir and the Detention Centres under the NRC. We documented the responses to 78 questions on topics ranging from Legal Aid and Prison Reforms to Detention Centres and the Arrests during the recent protests.
