State Level RTI: Nagaland

In May 2005, the national Right to Information Act 2005 was passed by Parliament. The RTI Act 2005 received Presidential assent on 15 June and came fully into force on 12 October 2005. The RTI Act 2005 covers all Central, State and local government bodies and applies to the State Government of Nagaland.

Newsupdates, Activities & Advocacy

  • On 17 September, CHRI on the invitation of Ms Hekani Jakhalu, a lawyer working on youth issues in Nagaland, organized a one-day workshop on the RTI Act for officials in the Nagaland Government. The workshop was attended by the Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, several Principal Secretaries and about 70 senior officers. Prior to this, in August, CHRI was invited to conduct a workshop for lawyers and law students. The Workshop Report captures the discussions that took place.
