AU Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and ATI
CHRI Africa in collaboration with the RTI Coalition and support from the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria hosted the AU Special Rapporteur, Ms. Pansy Tlakula to Ghana in July 2014.

CHRI’s Accra Office has been working to promote knowledge about the value of Access to information. In Ghana, the right to receive information is guaranteed by its 1992 Constitution.

As part of our advocacy on the right to information, CHRI conducts workshops, consultations and seminars for better implementation of the RTI Act across India.
Strategic Litigation
In India, CHRI has been deeply involved in strategic litigation with the purpose of making public information that public authorities are unwilling to share for no justifiable reason.

The Constitution of India does not explicitly mention a right to information (RTI). RTI was first recognised by the judiciary as a fundamental right that formed an inseparable part of the freedom of speech and expression that the Constitution guarantees to every citizen.
The Founding of CHRI: A Memoir
CHRI began as an idea floated at a conference in Cumberland Lodge, a residential centre in Windsor Great Park, England. The conference was called to look at the state of the Commonwealth after many African and Asian sports teams had boycotted the Edinburgh Commonwealth Games in 1986.
