Position: Long-term Volunteer, Media and Communications

Location: All locations acceptable

Time Commitment:  Flexible, minimum of 10 hours per week.

Type: Remote

Duration: 6 months

The Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI), India is an independent, non-partisan, human rights non-governmental organisation working for the practical realisation of human rights. Access to Information and Access to Justice (Police Reforms and Prison Reforms) are focus areas of CHRI’s work. For more information, please visit: www.humanrightsinitiative.org.

As Volunteer, Media and Communications, you will play a vital role in helping CHRI to raise awareness of its work and to advocate for human rights. You will be responsible to assist colleagues at CHRI in drafting press releases, articles, blog posts and in managing CHRI’s social media accounts.

CHRI is looking for a dynamic and articulate candidate with excellent written and verbal communications skills, a strong understanding of human rights issues and experience with social media to join its team for 6 months. The candidate should be self-motivated, energetic, and able to work independently toward given deadlines.

Volunteering with CHRI will help gain valuable experience in the field of media and communications, learn about human rights – particularly access to justice and access to information, network with other human rights professionals and make a difference in the lives of vulnerable people.

  1. Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement media campaigns
  • Manage CHRI’s social media accounts
  • Support colleagues in drafting press releases, articles and blogs
  • Support with media inquiries and interviews
  • Dissemination of CHRI's research and advocacy outputs through conventional mass media and social media outlets
  1. Required Qualifications and Skills:

Strong academic qualifications in media and communications, social sciences, or any other related field; Candidates must possess exceptional and excellent research, writing and editing skills, as well as outstanding oral communication abilities in English. Working knowledge of Indian languages will be an added advantage. Knowledge or work around human rights, criminal justice and experience of using RTI would be valuable. Excellent word processing, internet and social media skills are essential.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, energetic, and able to work independently toward given deadlines.

The position is voluntary and carries no remuneration or allowances.
