CHRI urges Centre to 'uphold rights, dignity and safety of all people' in Jammu and Kashmir

Concerned about controversial, widespread constitutional changes in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) has urged the Government of India to "uphold the rights, dignity, safety, security of all people living there".
In a brief statement, CHRI’s India Executive Committee (EC) called for "the resumption of all forms of communications, internet services and immediate release of political leaders from detention".
The Chair of CHRI’s EC is veteran administrator and the country’s first Central Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah. Other members include Justice Madan B.Lokur, Justice A P Shah, Nitin Desai, Poonam Muttreja, Jayanto Choudhury, Vineeta Rai, Jacob Punnoose, Maja Daruwala, B. K. Chandrashekar, Kamal Kumar and Sanjoy Hazarika, International Director, CHRI.
