No Excuse for Child Labour

Nearly 138 million children were engaged globally in child labour in 2024 — many in dangerous, exploitative conditions.

Climate change, poverty, and weak enforcement are driving children into exploitation every year, including in the Commonwealth. Four Commonwealth ILO Member States have yet to ratify ILO Convention 138, one of two fundamental conventions on child labour.

CTUG, CHRI, and the Commonwealth 8.7 Network, have brought together ILO experts, survivor advocates, and frontline organisations from across the Commonwealth to explore the drivers of child labour, the link with climate change, and the urgent steps needed to extend the universal ratification of ILO Convention 182 to Convention 138.
