The Handbook has been prepared by CHRI, in collaboration with the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), India. 28th May is celebrated as Menstrual Hygiene Day across the world. Started by the initiative of WASH United in 2014, it aims to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene management. In this jail mail, we raise issues pertaining to menstrual hygiene of women prisoners in India by highlighting our observations and recommendations regarding this.
Menstrual Hygiene & You
Following our interactions with women prisoners in Haryana, Punjab and Karnataka, we realised the need for creating awareness about good menstrual hygiene practices among women prisoners. These posters that are currently available in English, Hindi and Punjabi will be shared with prisons across the country for display inside prisons.
Recommendations on Ensuring Menstrual Hygiene in Prisons
Earlier this year, we worked with Boondh, an organisation working in the field of menstrual health management, to conduct awareness sessions for women prisoners in Mysore (Karnataka) and Ludhiana (Punjab). These sessions have helped us develop a list of recommendations for menstrual health management in Indian prisons.

Roles & Duties of Para-Legal Volunteers Murshidabad
