It is important that the various implementing partners and resource institutes that are working in close co-ordination with CHRI in Chhattisgarh are fully equipped with the required knowledge of the various aspects of human rights.
Apart
from networking with the civil society groups, CHRI's works in close
co-ordination with Chhattisgarh Police and Chhattisgarh State Human
Rights Commission.
The various consultative meetings organised by CHRI with different group of stakeholders reflected that public wanted their police to be better sensitised to the issues of human rights. Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) K.M. Seth stated that a change in the basic concept of policing is necessary to accommodate the changed democratic environment and societal values. The Governor was addressing the inaugural session of first four-day Human Rights Training and Sensitisation programme for Police Personnel jointly organised by Chhattisgarh Human Rights Commission and Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative on the 15th February 2004, at Raipur. He also mentioned that 'there is a growing perception amongst the people that the society needs protection by police as well as from the police and to correct the perception he suggested 'bringing about attitudinal change in the police force and making their actions transparent and accountable.
Whereas in relation to the State Human Rights Commission, CHRI believes that it is important to capacity build crucial human rights institutions in the state through sensitisation and training. In its effort, CHRI keeps feeding in newspaper clippings involving human rights violation to the commission. The senior members of the Commission share the role of CGHRC and their views on human rights in all the workshops organised jointly by Chhattisgarh State Human Rights Commission and CHRI. The investigating police officers at the commission have attended the four day Human Rights Training Workshops that is jointly organised by CGHRC and CHRI for police officers.
