Profile of Mana Police Station Area

Mana Police Station was set up in 1971 as an outpost when the Indian Govt. established a camp for refugees who came to India from East Pakistan (Bangladesh). Later on this outpost was elevated as a Police Station. Although the area of this Police station is very small as compared to other police stations of the state but this is a very important police station because the only civilian working Air port of the State comes under this P.S. and 4 villages of this P.S. are situated on National Highway.

1. There are total 12 villages under Mana Police Station Area, they are:
(1) Mana Camp
(2) Mana Basti
(3) Mana Colony
(4) Nakati
(5) Dumartarai
(6) Temri
(7) Dharampura
(8) Bhatgaon
(9) Boriakala
(10) Dhaneli
(11) Baroda
(12) Banarsi

2. Total Population of Mana Police Station Area: 28000 App.

3. Total Staff: Since the Airport falls under the jurisdiction of the Mana Police Station; and the activities at the Airport have increased after the creation of the State; half the time most of the staff of Mana P.S. are occupied with VIP Duty. In the past 4 years the number of staff has not been increased. There is no lady police officer in the Mana P.S. and this goes against the recommendations of National and State Women's Commission.

4. Vehicles:

This Police Station has only one Vehicle - Tata 407.
The majority of the policemen have their own two wheelers. They do not get any petrol allowance from the government. The Govt provides 190 litres of Diesel for the Tata 407, which is not sufficient. The policemen confess that due to big size of this vehicle and scarcity of diesel they are not able to perform their patrolling functions in a proper way. On Special occasions (like Holi, Visit of VIP's / Dignitaries etc.) extra diesel is given to them on special request.

5. Wireless/Telephone/Mobile:

Wireless Set: 1 (Govt)
Telephone: 1 (Govt)
Mobile: Around 14 policemen own mobile phones. (Personal)

* The Staff of Mana Police Station accept that after the Launch of Community Policing in this area, the villagers are co-operating with the police and that they are getting more information. There is a definite increase in witnessing. Previously people hesitated to come in front of the police and narrate the incident, now they volunteer to give evidence and all possible help.
