CHRI Post of the Day

National Commission for Minorities chairman Wajahat Habibullah spoke on the concluding day of the two-days training programme organized by Sangarsh RTI Movement in collaboration with Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative in Jammu recently. Speaking on the occasion, Wajahat Habibullah appreciated the Sangarsh RTI Movement and CHRI for their effort to spread awareness about the Right to Information (RTI) Act. He also urged the participants to use the act for matters of public interest. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rehana Batool also assured the organizers of fullest support in their movement towards transparency. Earlier, in the two day training program, participants from different districts of the state including college professors, senior citizens, activists, ex-army officers, legal experts and students were provided section-wise and rule-wise information about all aspects of the Jammu and Kashmir Right to Information Act 2009.

CHRI Posts of The Week

CHRI, with local Kenyan partners, the Usalama Reforms Forum, finalised a series of public and police awareness materials on the new system of police accountability and oversight in Kenya. The new system has been established in accordance with the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and subsequent new police legislation, and includes a new independent body that investigates allegations of serious misconduct by the police. The materials include: an overview of the police accountability mechanisms; flowchart of the process when a complaint is lodged about the police; public posters on how to make a complaint about the police; posters for police stations; pamphlets for the public concerning their rights; and a pocketbook for the police.
