Individual Cases


CHRI also receives individual cases and advises people on how to proceed after having interacted with the law. CHRI handles cases on human rights including issues pertaining to police misconduct, domestic violence, rape and defilement, estate disputes, unfair dismissals, insurance claims and many others. This area of work entails interviewing individuals when they first enter CHRI for support, representing clients at court and ensuring clients receive legal support. CHRI also petitions courts and drafts legal advice and opinion when appropriate. Approximately 70% of cases are referred to relevant agencies including; the Legal Aid Board, Domestic Violence Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the National Labor Commission (NLC), Ghana Prisons Service, the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Bureau (PIPS) and others.
