British Overseas Territories Project

CHRI, together with the UK Government, British Overseas Territories' administrations and other Commonwealth organisations, is undertaking a joint project to build capacity for human rights within the British Overseas Territories of the Caribbean, Pacific and South Atlantic. The role of CHRI London is to provide training in human rights advocacy, international learning and networking, reporting skills, and technical assistance and advice to governments as needed. It also serves on the managing committee.

The programme is being managed by the Commonwealth Foundation, which is an inter-governmental organisation established in 1965 and based in the United Kingdom (www.commonwealthfoundation.com). Alongside CHRI, the project is also being partnered by the Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA), which was founded in 1971 and fosters and promotes high standards of legal education in the Commonwealth. Much of CLEA's work focuses on human rights and good governance issues (www.cleaonline.org)

The programme will draw on the skills, expertise and networks of these organisations as well as other partners. In addition, two dedicated coordinators are attached to the programme: one focussing on the Caribbean and based in the region; and one on the South Atlantic and Pacific, based in the UK.
