Commonwealth
countries share similar legal and constitutional structures, besides
the common legacy of the Common Law system to which a majority
of the Commonwealth countries subscribe. The Legal and Constitutional
Division (LCAD) of the Secretariat helps bring about cooperation
in constitutional and administrative matters among member states.
It also strives for progress in legal aspects of development and
administration of justice systems. In its functioning it also
places importance on human rights and the rule of law. LCAD also
facilitates the Commonwealth Law Minister's Meeting
which is held every three years. Advocacy relating to legal and
constitutional matters within the Commonwealth could focus on
LCAD.
