Self-employed fundraising and communications officer, London


The Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative is seeking a part time fundraising and communications officer for our London office. CHRI is an international human rights non-governmental organisation working across the Commonwealth with a particular focus on issues around access to information and access to justice. CHRI is headquartered in India, with Offices in Ghana and London.
We are an independent UK charity, however the London team works closely with staff in New Delhi and Accra to conduct research and advocacy on issues and countries of concern within the Commonwealth.
CHRI London is going through a period of expansion and renewal ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London in April 2018. We have an ambitious agenda and are looking for an experienced professional to help us promote our work, and to play a leading role in fundraising.

The remuneration as part of this contract will be £200 a day, and the initial contract will be for 70 days’ work over a 12-month period. The majority of work can be carried out remotely.

Scope of work

As part of a small, dynamic team based in London, the fundraising and communications officer will work closely with staff, and the London Executive Committee, to help achieve our mandate to further the practical realization of human rights across the Commonwealth’s 53 member states. The officer will report to the Head of the London office.  Specifically, the officer will:

  • Lead a review of CHRI’s fundraising in collaboration with the Chair, Executive Committee, and Head of London Office,
  • Develop a new fundraising strategy based on the conclusion of the review, and lead its implementation,
  • Manage the production of CHRI’s daily human rights update, ensuring this high quality product is used to maximum effect,
  • Produce copy for publication as requested, in a range of styles which effectively communicates the key messages and work of CHRI,
  • To comment on and proof read materials intended for publication,
  • To liaise with staff in London, Delhi, and Accra to agree the content of information and promotional materials and to ensure that these are drafted accurately and to best effect, and
  • To liaise with the media as required.

Interviews will be conducted on the 8th and 9th March.
The contract is scheduled to commence on 19th March but there may be some flexibility.
